| The BREWERY We started out in 1996 with a tiny, 'frankenstein' 3 bbl system as authorLew Byson described it. The whole operation was squeezed into a 9 by 13 foot room in the basement of the mansion. There we toiled away & made some incredible beers...but just not enough. We would come back from our annual week long vacation to a near empty line up and angry staff & customers. In 2003 we started renovations on our 4 bay 1930s cement block garage and by August of 2004 we started brewing. The 7 bbl direct fired brew house we use today came second hand from Avery Brewing in Colorado. The remainder of our equipment we picked up ourselves in Pittsburgh from the Foundry in the Strip District. We were concerned that the new system would change the beer and it did, for the better. Now we can offer more styles of beers and we added some taps, have more room to be creative (and have more natural light and ventilation)...so we are happy! | Our Brewing History Steve started home brewing in 1985 and Heather joined him in 1991. Many of their award winning home brews were made in a lobster man's shack without running water & only a wood stove for heat on the beautiful coast of Maine while working at an Inn. In 1993 they moved to Colorado and started on the bottling line at New Belgium Brewing Co., they joined the company during a period of tremendous growth and quickly moved through a variety of positions absorbing every bit of knowledge along the way. After two years, as they had planned they moved to central Pa. to scout out a location for their dream of a brew-pub. I'll add more later... but for now, almost twelve years and three kids later.... I can't believe how time has flown! |
| Upcoming Taps June & July Organic Baltic Porter, Summer Bock, Hoppy Monk (a Belgian style Pale Ale) & Solstice Dubbel S.N.A.F.U. I.P.A. Enjoy - Heather & Steve |
